“Enough of waiting, we will no longer tolerate injustice,” read the placard held by Jagdeep Kumar from Goraya, the brother of Mandeep Kumar, who is believed to be stranded in Russia. Jagdeep, along with 10 others, staged a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi today. He was joined by the families of individuals who have been trapped in Russia for several months. The group expressed their despair and urged the government to take immediate action on their appeal.
“Why is the government silent? Indian Government, please wake up,” read another sign. The group also submitted a letter to the External Affairs Minister seeking assistance. “Kindly provide us with information about our family members. If no action is taken, we will organize a protest every month. We are losing hope — please don’t prolong this uncertainty. We need transparency,” the letter stated.
Jagdeep Kumar, who had recently visited Russia, alleged that three individuals residing there had deceived his brother.
“Mandeep underwent a 15-day sniper training and was forced to sign a contract written in Russian, a language he couldn’t even understand,” he claimed.
Jagdeep also lodged a complaint against the agents at a Moscow police station. “My brother was promised a job as a kitchen assistant or support staff, but was instead sent to the conflict zone,” he added.
