Adani Defence & Aerospace has entered into a definitive cooperation agreement with Sparton (DeLeon Springs LLC), an affiliate of Elbit Systems and a prominent supplier of sophisticated anti-submarine warfare (ASW) technologies.
According to a press release issued by the Adani Group entity on Sunday, the alliance represents a pivotal move toward domestic production and integration of intricate electronic components and advanced ASW capabilities for both Indian and international markets.
The company asserted that it is the first Indian private sector enterprise to provide locally developed sonobuoy solutions.
This collaboration will merge Sparton’s cutting-edge ASW innovations with Adani Defence’s robust proficiency in the design, production, and lifecycle support of naval systems for the Indian Navy.
Sonobuoys serve as essential tools for boosting Undersea Domain Awareness (UDA). They offer a critical capability for detecting, identifying, and tracking submarines and underwater threats. As vital components in ASW and maritime operations, they play a key role in ensuring maritime safety and safeguarding naval fleet formations.
Historically, India has relied heavily on foreign sources for these crucial defence assets, increasing reliance on overseas original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
In line with the government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ vision, Sparton’s existing engagement with the Indian Navy will now enable Adani Defence to domestically produce and supply these essential systems—crafted in India, for India.
Jeet Adani, Vice President of Adani Enterprises, stated: “In today’s increasingly unpredictable maritime landscape, enhancing India’s undersea warfare capabilities is not just a strategic choice but a necessity to preserve national sovereignty and security. The Indian Navy needs integrated, ready-for-combat ISR and ASW assets—including pivotal systems like sonobuoys—that are locally developed, rapidly deployable, and globally viable.”
“Through this partnership with Sparton, Adani Defence & Aerospace emerges as the first Indian private entity to offer indigenous sonobuoy capabilities, facilitating access to advanced technologies and fostering a resilient, forward-looking defence ecosystem. This initiative exemplifies our commitment to equipping India’s armed forces with state-of-the-art solutions that are conceptualized, engineered, and manufactured domestically for both national and global needs,” he added.
Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, remarked: “India has long depended on imports for such strategic technologies. This collaboration to bring world-class sonobuoy systems into the Indian defence framework marks a substantial step toward achieving technological self-sufficiency in this critical area.”
Donnelly Bohan, President and CEO of Sparton DeLeon Springs LLC, commented: “Sparton has a distinguished heritage in engineering excellence, innovation, and manufacturing premier maritime defence systems for the U.S. We are honored to partner with Adani Defence & Aerospace to introduce our proven ASW solutions to India. This partnership will allow us to localize assembly, cultivate advanced technical expertise, and deliver reliable ASW capabilities customized to the Indian Navy’s specific requirements.”
