A local court has sentenced two people to undergo five years’ rigorous imprisonment in a two-year-old snatching case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on each convict.
The police registered a case against the accused Ashu, a resident of Moradabad in UP, and Nitin, a resident of Mohali, under relevant sections of the IPC on a complaint lodged by Savitari Devi, a resident of Dadu Majra Colony on September 20, 2021.
The complainant said on September 17, 2021, a man snatched her gold chain from a market in Manimajra. The man ran away from the spot with another boy who was waiting for him at a distance on a motorcycle.
During investigation, both the accused were arrested and the chain and two stolen motorcycles were recovered from them.
During court hearing, the accused’s counsel argued that the accused were falsely implicated in the case while the public prosecutor argued that the prosecution has proved the case beyond doubt. After hearing of the arguments, the court sentenced both the accused to undergo five years’ rigorous imprisonment.
