Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday inaugurated a cutting-edge Mobile Forensic Science Laboratory Van from the Delhi Secretariat, marking a major advancement in enhancing the city’s criminal justice infrastructure. The event was also attended by Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood. This mobile forensic unit, outfitted with modern analytical equipment, is designed to swiftly reach crime scenes and perform immediate forensic assessments. CM Gupta highlighted that the initiative would significantly enhance the efficiency and openness of judicial proceedings. “Our administration is committed to delivering swift, transparent, and dependable services to citizens through the integration of advanced technology,” she said.

These mobile units will aid in gathering scientific evidence in various criminal investigations, including murder, robbery, fraud, and cybercrime. The Chief Minister explained the typical protocol followed by forensic teams — from safeguarding the crime scene to gathering crucial evidence such as DNA samples, blood traces, and digital records for initial examination. The comprehensive report generated at the end of this process serves as admissible proof in court proceedings.

“When evidence isn’t gathered promptly, there’s a higher chance it may be tampered with or lost, as offenders often try to erase clues. In such situations, the alertness and quick action of forensic experts are key to delivering justice,” she emphasized, adding that this initiative would strengthen public confidence in the legal and law enforcement system.

Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood emphasized the increasing dependence of the judiciary on scientific investigation. “Forensic science isn’t just an instrument to identify offenders — it’s a vital asset in the quest for truth and fairness within our society,” he said, describing the mobile forensic van as a pivotal move toward promoting transparency and objectivity in criminal investigations.
