NEW DELHI:
The Delhi High Court has ordered a CBI investigation, supported by a forensic examination, into the alleged manipulation of JEE (Mains) 2025 scorecards. This follows claims by two candidates who reported discrepancies in their results.
During a hearing on May 14, Justice Vikas Mahajan directed that the case be referred to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) and the Central Bureau
of Investigation (CBI). “Both parties are ad idem that to find out the truth… it is imperative to refer the matter to experts,” the court stated. The next hearing is scheduled for May 23.The court instructed candidates to submit their registered email IDs to the court registry for CFSL verification. The CFSL Director has been requested to expedite the inquiry and submit the findings in a sealed cover by May 22, given the urgency—since JEE (Advanced) 2025 results are expected on June 2.
The court also barred the CFSL from disclosing any findings during the investigation, citing the sensitive nature of the information.
The petitioners alleged that the original scorecards from the first session of the exam—initially available on the National Testing Agency (NTA) website—had been replaced with altered versions showing incorrect scores. One petitioner claimed his original percentile made him eligible for JEE (Advanced) and sought relief.
The court noted that the CFSL may contact the petitioners for assistance or further information. According to the NTA, the entire process is managed by the National Informatics Centre and involves no human interference.
Justice Mahajan allowed one of the candidates to register for JEE (Advanced), directing that the application be processed despite the May 2 deadline having passed.
