The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Monash University, Melbourne (Australia), to jointly pursue advanced studies and innovation in metro rail technologies. The partnership, facilitated through Monash’s Institute of Railway Technology (IRT), was officially sealed during a ceremony at Metro Bhawan on Tuesday, in the presence of senior representatives from both institutions.

The agreement outlines collaboration in critical domains such as rolling stock automation, track upkeep, and technological knowledge sharing. Additionally, it establishes a framework for academic and research exchange programmes between Monash University and the DMRC Academy, which will act as the primary hub for knowledge dissemination and professional development throughout the collaboration.

that can be jointly executed with IRT under mutually agreed terms. The alliance will also look into broader opportunities for technical cooperation and skill enhancement programmes aimed at empowering metro engineers.

“This MoU represents a pivotal step forward in DMRC’s international collaborations, especially with one of the most esteemed institutions in railway research. This partnership is anticipated to boost operational performance, system safety, and the overall commuter experience,” DMRC noted in an official statement.

The association is expected to pave the way for cutting-edge developments in metro technology, with a strong emphasis on improving system reliability and sustainability in urban transit operations.
