The district police claim to have dismantled an international narcotics syndicate. While addressing the media at a press conference held at the Police Lines today, District Police Chief Sandeep Kumar Malik stated that under the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, stringent measures were being implemented against traffickers and criminal gangs operating in the region.
He stated that as part of the initiative, a CIA unit apprehended Arjun Sharma, a resident of Hari Nagar, on March 28, with 270 grams of heroin. A case was lodged against him at the Model Town police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Saurav Jindal, also known as Saubi, from Mohalla Kirti Nagar, was likewise implicated in the drug trade under the directions of an individual based in the United States. Malik noted that Akashdeep, a resident of Purhiran, was delivering drugs to users as per Jindal’s instructions. Legal proceedings under the NDPS Act were initiated against both Jindal and Akashdeep, and the latter was taken into custody.
During questioning, Arjun Sharma and Akashdeep revealed that after multiple traffickers were apprehended in possession of firearms, Jindal ceased direct communication with them. Instead, he routed instructions through Ashutosh Sharma, a Canadian national temporarily staying at Mohalla Bahadurpur in India. Ashutosh reportedly collected and distributed funds on Jindal’s behalf to Ravinder Adia of Khanpuri Gate and Bhawani Singh of Kachche Quarter.
Malik stated that criminal charges under the NDPS Act were also filed against Ashutosh Sharma, Saurav Jindal, Ravinder Adia, and Bhawani Singh. Ashutosh Sharma was subsequently arrested. Further interrogation of Akashdeep and Ashutosh disclosed that Jindal was channeling heroin to them through Gurinder Singh, a resident of Banga in the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district.
According to Malik, Gurinder Singh was arrested on April 14. During his interrogation, Gurinder confessed to supplying heroin to Jindal under the orders of Jaspreet Singh, also known as Jassa, from Mohanwal under the jurisdiction of the Garhshankar police station. Gurinder claimed he made payments to unidentified individuals sent by Jaspreet Singh.
On May 7, the CIA team arrested Sahilpreet Singh from Kila Baroon village, seizing 149 grams of heroin. Under interrogation, Sahilpreet confessed that he too supplied heroin on Saurav Jindal’s instructions.
Following this, the CIA team arrested Hemant, a resident of Abadpura in Jalandhar district, with a country-made .315 bore pistol and one live round. A case was filed against him at the Sadar police station. Malik added that Hemant and his associate Neeraj Kumar, also known as Ranjha, from Hardokhanpur village (currently residing in Banjarbagh), were engaged in supplying drugs and firearms under Jindal’s command.
On May 7, police detained Sahilpreet Singh again with narcotics. During further questioning, he revealed that on May 8, he received payment for the drugs and transferred the amount to Jyotipreet Kaler, a resident of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.
Malik reported that Jyotipreet Kaler was apprehended by the CIA on May 16 in Jalandhar, and Rs 5.10 lakh in drug proceeds was recovered from him. Additionally, a country-made .32 bore pistol along with a magazine was seized. A case was filed against him under the Arms Act. During interrogation, Kaler disclosed that he was acting under the direction of Akash Chauhan, alias Rocky, a native of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, who is currently residing in the United States.
