The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has issued a stern advisory to the public, cautioning against making any payments for EPF-related services and reiterating that all such services are provided entirely free of charge. Pankaj Kumar, Regional Commissioner of the EPFO Jalandhar office, emphasized that members can access these facilities independently, without the need for agents or intermediaries.
Kumar pointed to recent enhancements, including the introduction of a revised Joint Declaration Form, which enables users to independently update their personal information—such as name, birth date, and gender—online. This new process replaces the previous, more cumbersome method that involved employer coordination or in-person visits to EPF offices. The upgrade is part of a broader governmental initiative aimed at making EPF services more streamlined, accessible, and user-focused.
The Commissioner voiced concern over cyber cafés operating in industrial zones that are exploiting workers by charging for complimentary services like Aadhaar seeding, service record updates, and filing complaints. He underscored that these services are freely accessible via official digital platforms and warned members not to fall into the trap of paying cafés for tasks that can be completed at no cost.
“We have received reports of certain cafés deceiving individuals by demanding steep fees to file grievances online—something any member can do themselves in minutes from their home or smartphone, without incurring any charges,” Kumar noted.
He urged EPF subscribers to use official grievance redressal systems such as EPFiGMS, CPGRAMS, and the DPG portal to submit complaints, monitor progress, and obtain timely resolutions—without depending on third-party agents.
Kumar also advised users to exclusively rely on the official EPFO website and the UMANG mobile application for all their EPF needs. He issued a strong warning against disclosing confidential information—like Aadhaar details, login IDs, or bank credentials—to unauthorized individuals or service providers. “Using only official channels ensures the security of personal data and guarantees access to services in a secure and efficient way,” he added.
Reaffirming EPFO’s dedication to providing transparent and efficient public service, Kumar encouraged all members to leverage the available digital tools. “Every employee should be aware that their EPF entitlements come at no cost. Don’t let fraudsters exploit you for services that are meant to be free,” he concluded.
