The standing sanitation panel of the Manesar Municipal Corporation (MCM) has levied a fine of ₹9.2 crore on the local sanitation service provider, Akanksha Enterprises, for lapses in road cleaning operations. The company had recently made headlines after accusing a former MCM commissioner of misconduct, following an earlier fine. Although the commissioner was later reassigned, a dedicated committee was formed to scrutinize the contractor’s billing and actual on-site work.

Despite submitting claims amounting to ₹13.17 crore for services rendered between February and May 2025, the contractor faced a deduction of ₹9.17 crore. The agency had been hired for street sweeping, drain cleaning, and weed removal.

“The contractor raised an invoice of ₹13,17,61,332. However, after thorough assessment of machinery and workforce deployment, a total penalty of ₹9,17,92,267 was enforced,” the report mentions.

It further notes that the current payment is provisional and solely reflects verified deployment. “This should not be interpreted as an exemption from existing shortcomings, breaches of contract, or previously levied fines. The matter is still under comprehensive review by the authorized body,” it adds.

The enforcement action has been welcomed by local Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), who are now calling for a deeper probe.

“MCM must assess ground-level realities before approving any disbursements. ₹4 crore for three months of sweeping services is still exorbitant. There’s been no tangible work observed. The contractor, who earlier alleged corruption when penalized, has consistently underperformed. We urge the blacklisting of such vendors and insist on the selection of dependable contractors to avoid turning Manesar into another Bandhwari,” said a statement by the United Association of New Gurugram.

The contractor is reportedly considering contesting the fine, though no formal appeal had been filed at the time of reporting.
