Three individuals allegedly carjacked a Tata Harrier SUV at gunpoint near the Qutub Institutional Area in southwest Delhi, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place around 5 am on Sunday along Shaheed Jeet Singh Marg while the SUV was parked outside a restaurant. As per police reports, the victim, Sagar, was inside the vehicle waiting while his employer and the employer’s wife were attending a party inside the venue. Suddenly, three men entered the SUV through the rear door. One of them, brandishing a firearm, threatened Sagar and forced him into the back seat before fleeing the scene with the vehicle.
Sagar was allegedly physically assaulted and held hostage inside the moving vehicle for nearly an hour. The suspects also snatched his phone and some cash before abandoning him on Asola Road and escaping with the SUV. He later lodged a complaint at the Kishangarh police station.
Reacting promptly, the police tracked the SUV’s location through surveillance systems and CCTV footage. After hours of monitoring, the vehicle was intercepted, and the culprits were apprehended. Authorities recovered the stolen SUV, two looted mobile phones, and a country-made pistol with one live cartridge.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Yogesh, alias Commando (34), Ashok Kumar (40), and Banty (25). All three are habitual offenders with more than 10 prior cases of robbery, snatching, and theft registered against them, according to officials.
Police have confirmed that a detailed investigation is ongoing.
