Two individuals lost their lives in separate road accidents on Monday. In Phagwara, a motorcyclist named Gaurav Joshi (40) died in a crash while returning from a religious trip. Joshi, a local resident and proprietor of a sweet shop in Gaushala Bazaar, had visited the revered shrine of Shri Baba Balak Nath. During his return early Monday morning, his bike swerved off the road and collided with a tree. The collision was fatal, and he died instantly.
A large number of locals gathered at the Banga Road cremation ground to pay their final tributes. He was remembered as a sincere and industrious man.
Later that night, another tragic mishap occurred on Sultanpur Lodhi Road near Kapurthala. Around 8:30 pm, close to the Satguru Petrol Pump, two young men on a motorcycle crashed head-on with a scooter approaching from the opposite direction. The impact caused the motorcycle to lose balance and subsequently crash into an oncoming truck.
One of the motorcyclists, Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Mohalla Kesri Bagh, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the Civil Hospital in Kapurthala. His fellow rider, Sikandar, also from the same neighborhood, was seriously injured and is currently under treatment.
Sikandar shared that they had been heading out to buy household supplies when the accident occurred.
Emergency teams responded swiftly, with members of the Punjab Police PCR unit—including in-charge Ranjit Singh and ASI Karamjit Singh—arriving on the scene to provide assistance and help transport the injured. Following a post-mortem examination, Mukesh Kumar’s body was handed over to his family members.
