A 20-year-old man was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances in Hamira village, located in Kapurthala district. The deceased, Harpreet Singh, a resident of Talwandi Naubahar in Moga district, was reportedly in a live-in relationship in Hamira at the time of his demise. While initial findings point to suicide by hanging, Harpreet’s family has alleged foul play.
Station House Officer (SHO) Amandeep Nahar of Subhanpur Police Station stated that the body was found hanging from a ceiling fan using a scarf and was transported to Kapurthala Civil Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death. The remains have been kept in the hospital’s mortuary. SHO Nahar affirmed that the police are handling the case with utmost seriousness and that a thorough investigation is in progress.
Harpreet’s family has expressed deep suspicion over the circumstances surrounding his death. His elder brother, Kuldeep Singh, and mother, Paramjit Kaur, claimed that Harpreet had fallen under the influence of a woman named Kulwant Kaur, with whom he had been cohabiting. They mentioned that Harpreet had previously gone missing, prompting them to lodge a missing person report. They later learned he had been residing in Hamira village.
Kuldeep said that a few days before the incident, Harpreet had called him and expressed concerns for his safety. “He told me that the woman’s former husband had come back and was attempting to reconcile with her. Harpreet felt unsafe and even named a few individuals, saying that if anything happened to him, they should be held accountable,” Kuldeep stated.
As of now, the family has not submitted a formal statement to the authorities, and no official complaint has been registered. However, they are appealing to the police to investigate thoroughly, suggesting possible involvement of the woman and other unnamed persons.
Police officials have assured that every possible angle, including both suicide and potential homicide, will be explored. The post-mortem examination and forensic tests are expected to shed more light on the actual cause of death.
