In connection with the reported abduction of a youth from Hoshiarpur district in Iran, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted on the directives of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). As per police sources, the SIT comprises DSP (Detective) Sukhninder Singh, SHO of Model Town Gursahib Singh, and Purhiran Police Post In-charge Sukhdev Singh.
Amritpal Singh (23), a resident of Bhagowal village, had embarked on a journey to Australia. However, upon reaching Iran, he, along with Jaspal Singh from Nawanshahr and Husanpreet Singh from Dhuri, was allegedly kidnapped. The captors initially demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore from the families of the youths, which was later reduced to Rs 18 lakh per individual after the families conveyed their inability to arrange the amount. Disturbing videos purportedly showing the abducted individuals being tortured were also sent to their families.
The victims had reportedly been sent abroad by travel agents operating from Hoshiarpur. Following a complaint lodged by Amritpal’s family, Model Town police registered a case against the accused individuals – Dheeraj Atwal, Kamal Atwal, and a female travel agent. All three are currently evading arrest, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
