CityweliveA 16-year-old girl ended her life in Rahon, Nawanshahr, allegedly due to persistent harassment by a 16-year-old boy who was pressuring her to marry him.
The girl’s father, originally from Bihar, stated in his complaint that he has four daughters. He further alleged that the boy, a neighbour, had been repeatedly threatening his daughter—telling her that she must either marry him or end her life.
“She had not been mentally well for some time. The boy frequently visited our house and kept insisting that she agree to marry him. On Thursday, my family and I were away from home, and she was alone,” the father said in his statement.
According to the FIR, upon returning, he discovered his daughter had taken her own life by hanging. She was taken to the Civil Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
A case has been filed against the accused under Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
