Delhi Police have detained nine Bangladeshi nationals, including three minors, for residing unlawfully at various locations across the national capital, officials said on Thursday. Among those taken into custody were Hafijul (19), Mominul (21), Shamim (22), and Inamul (38) — all hailing from the Khudigram and Nakeshwari regions of Bangladesh — who were unable to furnish legitimate identification or immigration documents, a police official stated.
Upon interrogation, the individuals admitted to having entered India illegally during their childhood along with their parents, who eventually returned to Bangladesh, the police reported.
In a separate incident, officers from the East District Police on Wednesday apprehended five more Bangladeshi nationals — a husband, wife, and their three underage children — from the Anand Vihar locality. The detainees, identified as Md Shaheen (30), his spouse Rujeena (26), and their children, belong to Shimulbari village in Bangladesh, according to police.
Authorities said the family crossed into India via unauthorized riverine channels and had been staying in East Delhi without any legal documentation.
