Delhi witnessed at least five fire-related incidents on Sunday. One occurred in a building that houses coaching institutes in Old Rajendra Nagar, another at a medical supply warehouse in Ganesh Nagar, East Delhi, and a third at a hotel in Paschim Vihar, West Delhi. An additional fire in Farsh Bazar—believed to have originated from a charging e-rickshaw—left six individuals injured. A separate blaze also broke out in a shop in the bustling Sarojini Nagar market.

In Old Rajendra Nagar, located in Central Delhi, flames erupted on Sunday morning inside a multi-storey commercial complex. Employees and students attending the coaching centres managed to evacuate safely. According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), the fire was reported at around 11:08 a.m. from the Bada Bazar area. Initially, four fire engines were dispatched, but as the fire intensified, four more were deployed. Close to 50 firefighters, assisted by police personnel, managed to bring the fire under control within approximately 90 minutes.

Authorities are now probing whether the fourth floor of the building was being used as a library. They are also inspecting the structure’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) for regulatory compliance. The basement functioned as a parking facility, the ground floor accommodated a pizza outlet, the first floor housed a restaurant, while the upper levels were occupied by various coaching centres. DFS officials believe the blaze may have originated on the third floor.

In Farsh Bazar, the fire injured six members of a family, including two minors and three women. The victims were identified as Jyoti (23), Jyoti (32), Naina (35), Sunny (35), and two children aged six and seven. Police stated that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in a charging e-rickshaw parked on the ground floor of a residential building. Thick smoke filled the premises, trapping the family members inside.

In a different incident, a 27-year-old woman, along with her pet dog and rabbit, was rescued by fire personnel after a blaze broke out at a medical agency’s warehouse in Ganesh Nagar around 2:00 p.m. Meanwhile, another fire erupted at a hotel in Paschim Vihar at approximately 1:15 p.m. It was extinguished in about 35 minutes with the help of five fire engines.

In Sarojini Nagar market, four to five fire tenders were deployed to contain the flames. One man lost consciousness upon witnessing the fire and was transported to a hospital for medical assistance.
