In accordance with the directives of the Government of India and the Punjab Government, the district administration will carry out a mock drill across the district on May 31, from 8:00 pm to 8:15 pm.

Presiding over a meeting held on this subject today, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain stated that the mock drill is a standard procedure intended to evaluate and enhance civil defense readiness.

The Deputy Commissioner mentioned that warning sirens will be activated throughout the district at 7:58 pm to mark the commencement of the exercise. Subsequently, a complete power outage will be implemented from 8:00 pm to 8:15 pm, during which the city’s electricity supply will be temporarily suspended.

In compliance with the guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, a similar blackout drill will also be executed in Kapurthala and Phagwara on the night of May 31 as part of emergency preparedness initiatives.

Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal informed that this drill will occur between 9:30 pm and 10:00 pm, during which all lighting in homes, commercial establishments, illuminated signboards, and CCTV systems must be turned off. A siren will be sounded beforehand to announce the beginning of the drill.

Authorities have emphasized that this is strictly a mock activity, and citizens are urged to remain calm. Individuals driving or traveling during the blackout are advised to pull over to the left side of the road and switch off their vehicle lights.
