In a swift and coordinated operation, the Punjab Police solved a sensitive kidnapping and murder case within 24 hours, resulting in the arrest of seven accused individuals and the recovery of two vehicles used in the crime. The breakthrough came after the body of an unidentified man was discovered on May 14 in bushes along a roadside near Majha Petrol Pump in Fattudhinga village, Kapurthala district.
Providing details of the case today, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora stated that Inspector Sonamdeep Kaur, Station House Officer (SHO) of Fattudhinga Police Station, received a tip-off regarding an unidentified body. Upon reaching the location, the police took possession of the body and sent it to the mortuary at Kapurthala Civil Hospital for identification.
During the investigation, the police matched the description of the body with missing person records and identified the deceased as Sodhi Singh, son of Gurnam Singh and a resident of Sarhali Kalan village in Tarn Taran district. The identification was confirmed by the deceased’s brother, Jagraj Singh.
Following this, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against Jagmohan Singh, a resident of Bhulath village in Kapurthala, along with several unidentified accomplices.
SSP Toora said a special investigation team was constituted under the supervision of SP (Detective) Prabhjot Singh Virk and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Gurmeet Singh. The team included DSP Parminder Singh (Detective, Kapurthala), Inspector Jarnail Singh (CIA, Kapurthala), Inspector Sonamdeep Kaur (SHO, Fattudhinga), and Inspector Arjan Singh.
Through a detailed analysis of CCTV footage, technical surveillance, and human intelligence, the police were able to trace and arrest the prime accused, Jagmohan Singh, within 12 hours of launching the investigation. During interrogation, Jagmohan confessed to harboring a personal grudge against the victim. He allegedly conspired with his brother-in-law, Gurnek Singh, a resident of Katarian village in SBS Nagar district.
On May 9, Gurnek reportedly visited Jagmohan’s residence in Bhulath, where the two planned the abduction and murder of Sodhi Singh.
To carry out the plan, Gurnek allegedly assembled a group of accomplices, including his son Pohljeet Singh, Randeep Singh alias Pinda, Jashanpreet Singh alias Jassa, Ram Bahadur, and Mukhtiar Singh alias Milan. The group reportedly followed Sodhi Singh near Mundi Morh, forcibly abducted him, and severely assaulted him.
The accused then transported the victim to an isolated area near Garhshankar, where they allegedly murdered him during the night of May 9–10. On the morning of May 10, around 5 a.m., Gurnek and Pohljeet allegedly transported the body in a red Chevrolet Tavera (registration number PB 32 G 6440) and dumped it in roadside bushes near Fattudhinga village.
The police arrested all seven individuals involved in the crime. During the investigation, two vehicles, including the Tavera and a Swift car, were recovered from the accused. One of the vehicles, reportedly owned by Gurnek, was used in the abduction.
